Dear Erin,
I attended and participated as a coach this past weekend for the AYM program and all I can say is WOW! Many of the teens at first thought this was going to be a joke or it was going to be another teen training where they can see their friends. They certainly were not ready for what was to come. Over half of the teen participants were from the teen center and over the two days I was able to SEE the change and healing before my eyes. We dealt with issues ranging from arguments with mom, to rape, from molestation to death.
These teens needed this and we gave them the healing they needed. I watched the hardest gang members weep like babies, I saw the ones who promised they were not going to cry let go and trust they were going to be okay. During the last day when we were wrapping up the program we were able to whisper affirmations of success to these young leaders. Just as much as this program was for the teens it was for us as their coaches, we were also healed.
